The man who shot into a southeast Oak Cliff apartment in 2021, severing a gas line and causing an explosion that injured several people, including Dallas firefighters, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Wednesday, according to the Dallas County District Attorney's Office. Phillip Dankins, 30, was sentenced to 12 years on a drug charge and 12 years on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm, the DA's office said.

PHOTOS: A little bug-inspired robot created by a team of engineers at the University of Colorado Boulder has the potential to someday aid first responders during disasters. The robot's name is CLARI, which stands for Compliant Legged Articulated Robotic Insect. It was built in the image of a bug. It's tiny, squishable and can shape-shift to fit through different gaps.

A house on West Elm Street in the City of Oneida was destroyed early Saturday morning by an explosion caused by a stolen vehicle crashing into the home. There were no injuries to homeowners, neighbors or emergency crews. Oneida Mayor Helen Acker posted on Facebook “there were no fatalities.” Police say the crash, which happened around 3:00am, severed the gas line into the house.

An arson investigation is underway after a raging inferno tore through a mechanic shop in Miami on Friday morning. Fond du Lac County is making use of new, clever technology to get first responders to the right location. The technology, called “what3words,” converts numeric GPS coordinates into words. The words are then decoded by first responders using the what3words app in the field. Fond du Lac County Communications Director Amy Haase says this eliminates the risk of typing in a wrong number for GPS coordinates in degrees, minutes and seconds or decimal degrees.

One person was injured after a boat caught fire on City Island Tuesday just before 6 p.m. The small powerboat sunk in the Long Island Sound shortly after firefighters were able to get the blaze under control. As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, the fire at Scott Recycling was still active and the Cocke County Sheriff's Office said the building is a total loss.
